"Humming should be easy. Think of it as a dancing sound wave (frequency/vibration), dancing around your resonating cavities. If it is not easy and the tone does not ring, try altering the size and shape of your resonating cavities (the most common and easiest to manipulate being your mouth), focusing your tone across hard surfaces (like your teeth or bones in the nasal cavity), and altering your airflow (speed, quantity and quality).

If humming is difficult, your most basic singing mechanics are out of balance. Which means, if you can't hum it well...you will never be able to sing it at your best.

I watch many students avoid humming because they claim to find it boring. The truth is, humming requires a balanced vocal instrument and easily exposes all those areas of the voice that perhaps could use a bit more training.
